EU calls on firms, governments to speed up privacy law preparation


The European Union is slapping a $1.23-billion fine on U.S. chipmaker Qualcomm for abusing its market dominance in the lucrative sector of components in smartphones and tablets.

U.S. chipmaker Qualcomm Inc was hit with a 997 million euro ($1.23 billion) fine by European Union antitrust regulators on Wednesday for paying Apple Inc to only use its chips, blocking out rivals such as Intel Corp.
